Promotion of Maaseik’s most known regional product “Knapkoek” in combination with animation

In honor of the “Knapkoek” - the internationally renowned and authentic Maaseiker regional product - Maaseik annually organizes, at the end of the summer, a fun baking and animation festival on the “Markt” (historical market place in the city center of Maaseik).

Master bakers bake a giant biscuit with a diameter of no less than 3 meters. The biscuit is baked in a mobile wood oven in the open air. When it is cooked and crispy, it is broken by “the Knapkoekers” - with wooden hammers - and distributed to the audience present.

This is one of the oldest events of Maaseik. The baking of the biscuit is an important part of the event but not the only one. Over the years the event was expanded with edge animation such as a nostalgic funfair and a local produce market.
