Naramata Celebrates Terra Madre Day

Naramata

December 10, 2009, Naramata, BC - Today, Discover Naramata Business Society announced the winner of the "Locavore" Drawing Contest held at Naramata Elementary School earlier this week.  Out of over 50 imaginative entries, Sage Tyogi was the winner!

Sage won a gift basket of prizes donated by Discover Naramata Businesses: Naramata Center, Shades of Linen, Tray Chic Enterprises, Cannery Brewing and the Naramata Heritage Inn & Spa.

Terra Madre Day was created by Slow Food international to raise the awareness of the importance of "eating locally" and the right of all community's to maintain and build access to good, clean and fair food.  It also recognises Slow Food's 20 anniversary.

The recent accreditation of Naramata as a Cittaslow highlighted the communities need to work towards promoting awareness of Slow Food's philosophies.  The Terra Madre Day was very was very timely in that it gave us an opportunity to meet one of our commitments with respect to the accreditation.

The winning submission and a number of honorable mentions are currently on display in the foyer of Naramata Elementary School.  The school's Christmas concert to be held Dec 9 will give an opportunity to showcase the work of students and the Terra Madre Day initiative to parents and their families.  As well, local website Mynaramata.com will promote the contest and the winner on it's home page.

For further awareness, and in part due to the overwhelming response from Discover Naramata Businesses generosity, a second gift basket prize was created for another contest to run on the Mynaramata.com website.  The site editor is soliciting locals to submit their favorite Terra Madre Day recipes and/or stories.  The winner will be drawn at random next week.  The contest will continue the momentum of Terra Madre Day and the awareness of Cittaslow Naramata.
