Ludlow in Shropshire became the UK’s first Cittaslow town in 2003, after much work by Graeme Kidd, the late and much-missed Past Mayor. Cittaslow UK was formally recognised by Cittaslow International in 2006, after the Norfolk towns of Aylsham and Diss had also joined the movement.

Cittaslow UK now has 9 members across England, Scotland and Wales and has constituted itself as a Community Interest Company to reflect the needs of a growing membership.

Member towns of Cittaslow UK meet regularly throughout the year and undertake a variety of joint activities to promote the movement and encourage Cittaslow related projects in their towns. Towns also meet and keep in touch with each other on a more informal, on-going basis to support each other’s activities and exchange ideas and information.
