Bailey Hill

Mold

Good example of partnership working with Cittaslow Mold and several other local groups, including Mold and District Civic Society, Age of the Princes historical group, Danswr Delyn Welsh dancers, The Absurd who organise poetry and contemporary music, Cylch the Welsh medium play group, Kings Christian Centre etc .....

In Mold there is a neglected area called Bailey Hill which is the site of an 11C motte and bailey. It was the scene of many battles between the Welsh and English (Mold is a border town). To raise public awareness about Bailey Hill and for people to start visiting it again, so we can begin fundraising to restore it, Cittaslow Mold held a Bailey Hill picnic in May 2500 attended the free event, there was music, poetry, historic re-enactments, camp fires with the scouts, and we launced a new historical trail with interpretation panels and a leaflet.

On the Cittaslow Mold stall we had a section with information about historic and cultural events in Mold and how people can become involved. We also  had a childrens' section where they made crowns and banners out of cardboard, glue and glitter. They then wore these for some of the historic activities.
