Fall on the Farm

Fall is upon us at Green String and our farmers, interns, and store folk alike are easing into the next phase of the year. As some of our fields are being cover cropped, others are being seeded with the brassicas and other vegetables that will adorn your refrigerators and counters in the coming months: celery, cabbages, choys, mizuna, arugula, radishes, turnips, and beets. In the coming weeks, you can expect chicories to start coming into the farm store.

We would like to thank and usher forward Lucy O'Dea, Green String's Farm Store Manager, who will be leaving us at the end of this week. Lucy has brought tremendous energy and motion to the farm and her spirit, vision, and friendship will be greatly missed. We would thus like to introduce to you our new Farm Store Manager, Lora Kincaid, who you will all recognize from our current full time store staff. Lora is eager to pick up the torch and continue to serve the health and vitality of our community.

As many of you may know, Green String is a working, educational farm with a thriving internship program. Interns work, live, and learn with us and our head farmer Bob Cannard during a three month program, which emphasizes sustainable, "beyond organic" farming methods. The winter program starts November 29th and we will be accepting applications through October 15th.

Store hours related reminder:

The Green String Farm Store is operating under summer hours, open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Farm Fresh Egg Updates:

We will now be collecting eggs once a day at 12pm, noon. We still must limit eggs to 6 per customer per day. We ask that you are patient and flexible with egg collection as our interns are learning how to most time-effectively collect and bring the eggs to the store.

A request for paper bags and egg crates:

We kindly as that you donate grocery bags and egg cartons (no plastic of styrofoam) to our farm store.
