Berwick upon Tweed (UK) - Salmon project aims to collect stories of life on the River Tweed

Researchers are setting out to capture people's memories of the once-thriving salmon netting on the River Tweed.

Salmon fishing on the Tweed: Past. Present. Future is a citizen-storytelling project which aims to understand what salmon fishing means to the Berwick community and how it could still play an important role in the town's future.

The project follows the crowning of Berwick's Salmon Queen, reflecting the area's fishing tradition.

Social geographer Dr Helen Jarvis, from Newcastle University, is collecting stories via a pop-up 'listening booth' which records people's memories in their own words.

The stories will be included in a book to celebrate the historic traditions, activities and employment associated with salmon fishing in Berwick.
